We will visit one of the famous textiles centers to see how these bright textiles are made and to give us an opportunity to purchase some of these beautifully handcrafted items. After that, we will visit the Inca site and the small church that belongs to the XVII century.

Next, we will drive to Urubamba district to enjoy a nice buffet lunch (not included). After we enjoy our lunch, we will continue our journey to the town of Ollantaytambo (2,790 meters or 9,153ft) to learn about the Inca site located there. It is still unclear what this group of terraces was used for and many experts have their hypothesis. Inca terraces were heavily used for agriculture but many experts believe that Moray was not used for agriculture but for experimenting.

After visiting Moray, you will visit the Maras salt mines. This site consists of thousands of individual salt ponds date back to the Incan times. Depending on the time of year you visit, these salt ponds will look vastly different because of the stages of the mining process they are in at that time. Q&A

You’re thinking about a trip with Steep Adventures, but have a few questions. We will attempt to answer some of your questions below. Send us an email and we promise to answer your questions three (like “What is your quest?”).

What does the adventure grade mean?

Each trip is graded from 1 to 5 on the challenge of the adventure. One being the easiest of adventures, generally touring and walking or cycling short distances at lower altitudes. Five is the highest grade and includes long hiking or cycling distances and high altitude adventures. Each description should give you more details on the activity involved, distances, and elevation (if a factor).

When should I register for the adventure?

Registration typically closes 90 - 120 days before the scheduled trip departure. However, if we meet the maximum capacity, the trip registration will close early. Because most of our adventures are connected with a charitable cause and involve raising funds to support a specific project, we encourage participants to sign up early to give time to spread the word and raise support.

How does the adventure fundraising work?

A trip that is connected to a fundraising project with a charitable organization will have a fundraising goal for each participant to meet. We will give you fundraising ideas and tips from previous participants. You will receive a fundraising portal from the charity to collect all fundraising support, Steep Adventures does not collect any funds for the project (only trip costs). The charity will give you information about their work and the project you are raising support for by doing this awesome adventure trip. The more people you involve in the fundraising effort the more benefit the charity receives from your efforts, as the word of their work reaches more people.

When should I book airfare?

Before booking your trip airfare you need to make sure the trip has reached the minimum number of participants. Group airfare is only possible when 10 or more people are traveling on the same itinerary, so if this is a possibility, we will let you know. If you purchase your airfare and have it covered by travel insurance, it is up to you to make sure the trip cancellation policy will cover refunds if the trip is canceled for not getting the minimum participation.

With COVID-19, what is the plan if travel to a particular destination is not possible?

We are continuing to monitor travel and the possibility to travel to our chosen destinations. If travel becomes impossible due to changes in policy for quarantines or travel restrictions, we will look for alternative travel dates or speak with you about alternative options. If you purchase travel insurance, please check to make sure that COVID-19 cancellations are covered.

Along the way you will see local herders and llamas, Ausangate mountain to your left, and you will have your expert guide explaining the history of the locals and talking about the landscape along the way. After lunch we continue uphill for our second pass for the day (Pucacocha pass-16,404ft) where if you're lucky you may see condors and vicuñas until descending to our campsite of chillca where you will be surrounded by high mountains and incredible hanging glaciers- watch for the glacier crashing into the lake below! From here you descend to circle lake and continue walking a Peruvian flat until we are presented with one final climb to the Rainbow Mountain. Soak in the sights and enjoy what you've worked so hard for. We will enjoy lunch in the surrounding area, and head back down the valley to make our way to the stunning Lake Ausangate where camp will be set up and waiting for you to take a rest.
